Apollo Bay

Apollo Bay is one of the most beautiful holiday towns on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. It is located about 195 kilometers south west of Melbourne between Cape Otway and Lorne. Apollo Bay is a beachside resort town with a sensational beach, surf club and busy boat harbour and marina that is home to a modern fishing fleet. It is also a stopover point for many smaller vessels cruising along this magnificent piece of coastline. The Barham River enters the ocean at Apollo Bay and there is a second popular beach located at its mouth. The hinterland region is quite beautiful with green pasturelands complemented by spectacular coastal scenery. Panoramic views over the town can be seen from Marriners Lookout road which is only walking distance from the town’s commercial center.

Other local attractions include the Bass Straight Shell Museum and the old Cable Station Museum. There is a popular drive from Apollo Bay that runs along the banks of the Barham River to Marriners Falls and this is a great place for a day out or a picnic and bushwalking. Cape Otway is located just to the west of Apollo Bay and is part of the Great Otway National Park. The Lighthouse on Cape Otway marks the southern most point for seafarers travelling the coast between Melbourne and Portland and is the second most southerly point of the Australian mainland.
